My mum says they help in growth:)

First it helps hair to grow...But if you keep doing it for too long, then your hair gets weak and will start to break off.

Best to give hair a good break in-between braiding.

Any kind of braids will grow you hair (weave or natural). What breaks a person's hair is if it's braided too tight. Braiding too tight will break off a persons hairline. Another thing that will break off your hair concerning braids is not waiting at least 2 weeks after a relaxer to braid your hair. Your hair is fragile after a relaxer so it's important to to give your hair time to strengthen back up. Many people thing that their hair has broken off when they take their braids out because they see a lot of their hair in the comb when they take them out. It looks like a lot however it is normal. A persons hair sheds a certain amount everyday. Your hair being braided doesn't stop that from happening it sheds it just remains braided in the rest of your hair until you take your braids out. The hair that you see if you have not braided it too tight is the normal shedding for however long that you had you hair braided for. It is important though to condition your hair before and after braiding, especially if you have dry, brittle or colored treated hair.
