Horse Hair Do's! lol?

I have a couple of horses that I love to braid and do fancy hair do's. They don't seem to mind it at all. I was wondering though is it bad for their mane or tail? I even sometimes use ribbons in their mane. The other horses that i don't fancy up, seem to almost laugh at the two that I syle. lol These are not show horses, just my babies on the ranch.

Nothing wrong with that as long as you don't keep it braided for a longer period of time, the kids at the barn I work love doing it and the horses enjoy the attention, we use Cowboy Magic Detangler here, keeps the hair nice smooth, makes it easy to remove the braides later and keeps dirt from sticking to mane and tails.

no it is not bad for there mane. If anything it is helping keep the knots out of the tails and manes.

They enjoy the attention and it won't hurt them at all, so go for it!

i wouldnt say that it's bad for them....escpically since their not show horses. If they were western pleasure horses and you kept braiding and messing with their tail I would tell you to stop because you should have a long flowing tail on a western pleasure horse and you would probably be ripping a lot of the hairs out.

but if they dont mind it then why stop? escpically if your having fun with it?

Just be careful not to leave any of them in for longer than day.

The longer it is in, the more they'll rub and they can eventually rub out their mane/tail..

As long as you are having fun, there is no harm in it. To help preserve the hair quality it would be a good idea to condition it regularly as a preventative.

nothing wrong, i think its good for the hair. Make sure you put some kind of moisturizer in it. When I'm doing that for fun, I put the rubber bands on kinda loose but enough to stay in place. Personaly my horse loves it, he's a mommys boy
